Welcome to GreatNorthernOutdoors.net!When I’m not attending to the rest of my life, I’m daydreaming about bowhunting for whitetails, tempting steelies with a wiggler, calling to turkeys or looking for trout that eat big visible dry flies. My philosophy is field to table. If I kill it, my wife, four daughters and I eat it. I like to eat, and perhaps because of that every animal I take is sacred.
I have been assigned the Spike Blog by my partners, and probably with good reason. Like many of you, my hunting and fishing time is limited (at least apparently to my partners), so I have been known to take less, much less, than a trophy. But I love the outdoors and the wondrous, tasty animals that inhabit it.
GreatNorthernOutdoors is blessed to have talent far beyond me. Dave Spratt, while professionally an editor and writer, is also a lifelong avid naturalist, interested in not only in the animals we chase but knows the plants, trees, soils, water issues and overall environs in which we play. When I tell Dave about a bird I saw or heard, he inevitably describes it in a way so that I can see it again. You will be interested in and entertained by what he brings to GreatNorthernOutdoors.
Tony Hansen is a hotshot outdoors writer, a master turkey caller, and a deer hunter with unique instincts to find mature bucks. Like Dave, Tony possesses knowledge of the outdoors that goes beyond where find the big one and includes the environmental and political issues that affect our pursuit. I have admired Tony’s hunting and writing abilities for years and I am sure that you will, too.
Rob Fitzgerald comes from a pedigree of northern outdoorsmen. I have known Rob for nearly 20 years and his knowledge, integrity, and enthusiasm for work and trout have always impressed me. Fortunately for us he is also supremely talented with computers and all issues related to the production of this site, from Web design to marketing to deer cam issues. It cannot be overstated that without Rob this site would not be possible.
We hope you enjoy GreatNorthernOutdoors! We hope you find us to be a unique and entertaining resource addressing all your outdoors interests. Tell us what you think, what you like and where we can improve. This site is for you.
Thanks for reading. In later, infrequent blogs I will regale you with stories of the big one that got away, the small one I took, and how good it tasted.
